Monitoring of invasive plant species in the wetlands of South Moravia: Occurrence and spread
Full title: Monitoring of invasive plant species in the wetlands of South Moravia: Analysis of occurrence and spread
Field of study: Students` Professional Activities

Official entry:
Wetland ecosystems belong to sensitive and biodiversity-rich environments that are often threatened by the spread of invasive species. In view of their high nutritional value, overgrowth by invasive plant species is problematic, as the plants are competitively strong and have the potential to suppress or even completely displace the original plant communities. The proposed work aims to perform a comprehensive analysis of the monitoring of invasive plant species in selected wetland locations of European importance in South Moravia. The main task of the student will be to monitor the occurrence, spread and possible impacts of plant invasive species on these ecosystems, including the elaboration of a proposal for possible measures for their elimination. The aim of the work will therefore be: (i) to investigate the current state of wetland sites selected for invasive species monitoring; (ii) identify invasive plant species that occur in these locations; (iii) evaluate the size of their populations and distribution in the area of interest, including the processing of mapping documents with the drawing of areas with invasive species. As part of the discussion, the student's task will be to (iv) present the possible impacts of invasive species on wetland ecosystems, including threats to local biodiversity, and (v) propose appropriate strategies and measures for controlling and reducing the impact of invasive plant species on selected wetland locations.
